A Trip to Trader Joe's

Sorry for missing yesterday you guys but I was in such a weird mood. Honestly, I didn't really feel like blogging. I'm sure you guys have those days!

Today the squirrel, my mom, and I took a spontaneous road trip to Raleigh! We went up for 2 reasons. One, to eat lunch with my sister. And two, to make my first trip to Trader Joe's!

I had breakfast before we left this morning. It was an ogre in a
Krema peanut butter jar. My dad killed the jar and then sent it over to me! I added a 1/2 teaspoon of xanthan gum to thicken the ogre up a bit and it was perfect! I also had some orange blossum tazo from my BFF. You know someone's your BFF when they share their tea.

It takes us 2 hours to drive up so on the way I snacked on some grapes.

Hello Trader Joe's!

I really thought about bringing a little cooler in case I wanted to bring home something cold. I'm glad I didn't because I spent enough in there! I really had to control myself. I love how they have their own brand of things. Even my mom went crazy! I'll show you my goodies tomorrow!

Here's me and the squirrel with our goods.

You know you're a food blogger when you get your picture taken outside of Trader Joe's! Especially when you don't even feel like a dork!

After our shopping we picked up my sister from N.C. State and headed to The Cheesecake Factory! Have you ever been? It was our first time... My sister, my mom, and the squirrel (obviously interrupted from her blackberrying).

I had half a turkey sandwich, half a salad, and a bowl of potato soup. It was really good! Plus you can't go to The Cheesecake Factory and not have cheesecake! I had Adam's Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple cheesecake. It was amazing.

We left there really stuffed and did some shopping at the mall. The squirrel was so exhausted at one point that she needed a break.

In the middle of the mall floor. Lovely. Only my kid!

We had such a great trip. I love Raleigh. If my sister would let me I'd live with her.

We ate lunch pretty late so I skipped dinner. I am seriously still stuffed. I don't think I could put a piece of food in my mouth. Bleh. I hate that feeling. It was worth it though!

I have got some really good questions on my formspring! Y'all are SO clever! I figured I'd answer one a day for awhile. Unless I get a ton of questions.

Here's the first one:

Q. What is your favorite "not so healthy" food? Now that you are pregnant, do you think you will indulge in it a little more often? by faithfitnessfun

A. Mexican food all the way! I love anything mexican! I think it's the cheese. I don't have a lot of willpower to begin with so I have to work really hard to maintain my weight. When I was pregnant with the squirrel I had NO willpower so even I'm interested to see if I will indulge more!

It's hard not to have that "I'm pregnant so I can gain weight" mentality. Unfortunately, I never got to the cravings stage with the squirrel (she was born 3mos early) so I never got to experience that. I can't wait to see how my emotions and hormones control my eating. Should be interesting!

I got a REALLY good one for tomorrow. I am so excited to see who asked it! You know who you are but I have a good idea who asked it!

And a question for you! Since we went to Raleigh today I missed my body combat class. That throws off my workout schedule. I was thinking of doing an hour long pilates class on Friday. Have any of you done a pilates class? Is it super hard? I don't want to stress out my body too much but I think it can definitely handle a little challenge.

Tj's and whole foods are my vices. I could spend a whole pay check in those stores so I have to limit my visits!

I've never taken a pilates class before, but I'm excited to hear what you think of it!

I really like Pilates. You should try it. I don't think it's super hard. It's just a lot of core work.

What year is your sister at NC State? Mine is a soph there. I wonder if they know each other.

how did I miss that you were expecting? I'm so sorry, congrats to you!

Sounds like a great day out and trader joes, I wish we had it in Canada, so jealous!

I have a question for you that I don't think has been answered and i'll ask it so you know who's asking:

how did the name squirel come about, it's so cute!

TJ's + Cheesecake Factory in one day?! Heaven! I love that pic of Squirrel on the floor...too cute!

I loved reading the answers to your questions...is it really bizarre that I'm 20 and can't wait to have kids? Have to work on the getting married part, first though :)

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Oh my God Adam's PB Cup Fudge Ripple cheesecake is my absolute favorite. Delicious looking lunch!!
And I don't think pilates would be too much to handle. I've only been a few times, but I bet if you're used to body combat, you're more than ready for this!

Trader Joe's is my favorite grocery place and Cheesecake Factory is by far my favorite chain restaurant. I always leave there stuffed too! Thanks for answering my question and I bet you will find a great balance for a healthy pregnant lifestyle. I never did the "I'm eating for two" thing, but I did enjoy treats and some of my indulgent favorites more often when preggo with M. And for sure will with the next one when that time comes :)

What a fun family day! I love the Cheesecake Factory...it is my favorite indulgent treat! I always get the peanut butter cup cheesecake...it's the best one!

I'm envious of the grocery stores in the US. I wish we had the same options. I'm still waiting for all of the yummy looking yogurts to head north!
I've never done pilates. I know it's really great, but is it really slow moving? I think it would be good for me, I have a hard time sitting still, relaxing, I'm way to high energy sometimes. It's good a lot of the time, but often I wish I could chill more. And ENJOY it. I feel guilty when I do.

How far along in your pregnancy are you Kristen? Eat whatever you want, you have permission, :)

Katie said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Love the pics! I've never been to a TJ's. There are some a couple hours away and I must do that soon!

I totally had that "I'm pregnant I can gain weight" mentality during my pregnancy and paid for it dearly. 60lbs. of it. Oy vey. I'm trying to take it easy on myself and call it a live and learn experience. Still, there are things I will definitely do differently the second time around.

I find pilates pretty boring so an hour of them would feel like torture to me. However, if you like it I don't see anything wrong with it. :)

I LOVE Pilate's. It's a great way to stretch your muscles. I always leave feeling loosey goosey.

Can't wait to see your TJ goodies. I remember when my kids used to throw themselves dwon just where ever! ;)

Awwwwwww she is so cute!! haha!! Love how she is just sprawled out on the mall floor!! My son used to do that when he was little but it wasnt cute, he would have a temper tantrum in the middle of the mall on the floor, yeah embarrasing!!

Yay for Trader Joes yums!!!! Cant wait to see the stash, you better post it!!

Cheesecake Factory is the best! I love their chinese chix salad, their salads are huge too!!

When i was pregnant the unhealthiest thing I would have like 3 or 4 times a week, was a steak egg and cheese bagel breakfast sandwich from Mcdonalds!!! So gross!!!! I know! I would never eat that now, i wuld die if I did!! My eating has changed so much!!! I havenot had steak anthing in like 4years, I only eat chix here and there, not even that much ever!

I like pilates :) yes it's hard, but in a calming sort fo way (is that even possible?!) - I reccomend trying it :)

I wish we had the stores in canada that you have in the states.... you have SO many options. I also live in a small town, so it limits my shopping options, big time.

We don't have any TJ's in Iowa...so I'm jealous! And wow...Squirrel being born 3 months early...I can't imagine, having a 5 month old myself. But it looks like she is thriving now! Best of luck on this pregnancy:)

AAAAa TJ's??? I am SO jealous!!! Back when I lived in D.C. we had one but I was younger back then and didn't fully appreciate it :( If only I could go back in time (or get them to open one here!).

And it looks like the squirrel is a future foodie because she looks super happy as well ;)

Christina said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

so jealous of your cheesecake factory visit AND tj's!!

A day of GREAT firsts. I really like both trader joes and cheesecake factory. However it is SO easy to overeat at the cheesecake factory. The portions are HUGE!

Gracie said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

I have such a love/hate relationship with the Cheesecake Factory. You see, I'm sure it's relatively easy to order something healthy-ish there. But do I ever? HECK NO! I'd much rather have it be a "cheat day" (although, I hate when people use that term :X). I'm glad you got cheesecake. Like you said - you can't go there any NOT get cheesecake! My favorite is the Dulche de Leche.

Jill said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Looks like the perfect day! Can't wait to see what you scored...I just shopped there too for the first time. Loved all the interesting goodies.
I love grocery shopping!

Amanda - RunToTheFinish said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

oh to have a TJ's...i swear if I ever get near one I'll be buying in bulk!

Julie said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

Oh you had a perfect day in my book! I guess I am 'blessed' to have 2 Trader Joe's within 10 miles of my house, and ironically, I don't go there that often.

Cheesecake Factory - OMG! You cannot leave there without being overly stuffed and feeling like crud, even though every bite was heavenly going down :)

I have taken Pilates, it's totally beneficial and you go at your own pace. It's more core challenging than yoga, and definitely a muscle strengthener. I encourage you to try it at least three times before making up your mind about continuing!

I am sooo jealous of Trader Joes shopping trips. The one in Manhattan is always SO busy that it's like a 40 minute wait in the line.

Your daughter is SO cute. The blackberry picture is SO funny.

Gina said... Best Blogger Tips[Reply to comment]Best Blogger Templates

I had NO IDEA you were pregnant!!! How the heck did I miss that?!?! Maybe I knew, but I just forgot....goodness, I'm sorry, congrats!!! Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?! Your daughter cracks me UP. She is like a big kid. She smiles at the camera, and yeah, she's into her Blackberry already! I can tell what she was thinking in that photo, "Geez mom, I'm texting my friend!" haha.

Glad you had a nice day with your family. I LOVE trips to Trader Joe's. I look forward to them all week!

Sounds like a great trip. I love the picture of the kid on the mall floor. It's not something a mom enjoys seeing, but sure is funny.
