The Strawberries Are Here!

The strawberry picking season has commenced!

It was the squirrel's first time!

She definitely knew what she was doing...

And then she REALLY knew what she was doing!

One happy strawberry picker!

We ended up with a huge bucket full of them. Maybe 4lbs? for $3.50! Plus we enjoyed some homemade strawberry icecream...

This kid was in heaven...

Now we've got too many strawberries... What to do with them?

Breakfast this morning was an ol' favorite. Overnight oats... Well they should really be called "two day old oats". I meant to eat them on Saturday morning. Plus some freshly picked, perfectly ripe strawberries.

The mix was 1/2 cup Bob's Red Mill Muesli, one container of vanilla maple Stonyfield yogurt, and 1/2 cup of skim milk. This was the best overnight oats I've ever made. I think because it had that maple yogurt in it.

The husband has been on a night flight schedule. Which explains my lack in posting. He goes in around 3pm and doesn't come home till 1am. Which is nice because we get the whole morning together.

This morning we ended up walking and then getting Chick-fil-a for lunch.

I got the usual. Grilled chicken sandwich, side salad with berry balsamic, and the rest of the squirrel's fries.

And as I'm typing this I'm munching on a Gala apple (the best!) and an Oikos honey yogurt (not so great).

Well I'm off to go catch up on your lives...

Anyone have any good uses for strawberries?

Also! Don't forget to enter the book giveaway!

Yum! I love strawberries! They are not in season where I am at (not enough sun here!) but I am enjoying all the shipped boxes from California!

yummmmm! i just bought like 30 lbs not too long ago. ridiculous, i know, but they were 3# for $1. anyways, so i washed and halved them all then froze them on a cookie sheet, then bagged them and put them back in the freezer. i use about a cup a day in shakes. here in phoenix im going to be living off smoothies until i have my baby in september!

What a fun day!! I'd recommend adding some strawberries to a green smoothie OR topping some pancakes with them :-)

Wow - I wish I could pick strawberries like that. The squirrel is so cute - I'd be in heaven too! Strawberries are so versatile - my favorite with dark chocolate :)

The squirrel is soooo cute with her strawberry face!! There used to be a farm within walking distance of my house, and I loved picking strawberries too :) Lately I've been loving strawberries covered with a homemade syrup of cocoa powder, water, and a little natural sweetener- it's divine!!

I can only wait until you give her watermelon- major pink everywhere! here is some advice from the four-year-old I babysit sometimes: don't eat the grass [top of strawberry]. Children may not know everything, but they can get by!

So glad to see you back! Absolutely love strawberry season, but it doesn't reach Iowa till the first of June, can't wait! We make huge batches of strawberry freezer jam, it is the best jam in the world. The recipe is right on the box of Sure-Jell (the pectin used to thicken it), you can find it by the jello in the grocery store. I strongly recommend!

Oh...and about the question you posted about the Brown Bottle. I should have explained...that lasagna recipe is from The Brown Bottle Restaurant that is very popular here in Iowa.

Glad you are enjoying some family time!

Not long before our strawberry season is here too! Can't wait!
Last year I made jam...it turned out a bit runny, so now I call it ice cream sundae topper. It tastes pretty good, just a little to soupy for toast.

She is too cute with all those strawberries all over her face. I like strawberries in pancakes/waffles, in oatmeal, on salads, in muffins, and on top of ice cream. There is tons that you can do with them.

haha...your Squirrel is just too adorable! and that homemade strawberry ice cream looks better than the store bought ones. my kiddies totally love strawberries. i remember when all three of us were sick not too long ago we went through at least 3 packs of those costco strawberries in one weekend! i prefer strawberries over oranges cause i'm too lazy to peel oranges haahaa.
