A Pregnancy Post

I wanted to skip a food post today... No not because my bad eating trend has continued... But because I've had quite a few questions lately about my pregnancy. Not only from bloggers but friends and family. I didn't want this to become a pregnancy blog but I think some of you might be interested from a medical perspective. Hopefully this post can clear up any questions...

I'll understand if you want to skip this post... It's a little on the boring side and has probably T.M.I... BUT you do get to find out the sex of the baby!

Up until yesterday this pregnancy has been treated completely normal.

Yesterday we had an appointment with a high risk doctor. They did an extensive ultrasound and put me on the right path for keeping this baby to full term.

If you didn't know already, the squirrel was born 3 months early. My water broke 4 months early for unknown reasons. I was on strict bedrest in the hospital for a month and she was born at 28 weeks. She weighed in at 1lb 14oz and still I guess, is technically considered a preemie.

Due to her early appearance you can probably understand why this new pregnancy has put myself, my husband, friends, family, and doctors into a state of paranoia.

The squirrel is a miracle baby. Normally, babies born under 2lbs don't have the same story she has. I'm not bragging. Just grateful she has done so well.

The appointment I had yesterday made all of us feel much more at ease. The doctor seemed certain that this pregnancy would be normal.

The ultrasound revealed that everything looked perfect. The baby is growing, he has a normal amount of amniotic fluid, all his parts are there, and my cervix was a normal length.

Yes... I said HE! It's a BOY.

The husband, thankfully, was able to go to this appointment. Y'all should have seen his face! It was priceless. He is so proud and so happy that he made a boy! He actually took the weenie picture with him to work yesterday to show off! (He'd kill me if he knew this was posted on here!) My reaction was "Are you SURE?!". The ultrasound tech said "Well, there's his penis!". Then I burst into tears.

He's a big ol' boy too (get your mind out of the gutter). The doctor estimates his weight is 6oz. In my pregnancy book it says a normal 17 weeker weighs around 3oz. No wonder I'm getting so big so fast! I feel and look more pregnant now at 17 weeks than when I had the squirrel at 28 weeks. I think because I was fatter then... No joke.

Anyways, the doctor started me on 17P. Which is a progesterone shot that helps prevent pre-term labor. I will be on these shots weekly until 35 weeks.

Guess who gets to give me these shots?

The husband... great...

From 22 weeks they will start
fetal fibronectin tests. Which should tell the doctor's if I'm going to have the baby within the next 2 weeks. Those tests will go from 22 weeks to 34 weeks every 2 weeks.

Plus I will have an ultrasound every 2 weeks for cervical length and change.

Plus I will still be seen regularly once a month by my regular OB.

See why this appointment made us feel good.

This baby is NOT coming out until 40 weeks. The doctor's are doing everything in their power to make that happen.

Not only is everyone being extremely precautious but I already feel like this pregnancy is different.

With the squirrel I was in the emergency room for bleeding at 5 weeks. From that point on I had bright red bleeding until the day she was born. I also was terribly sick with her from morning sickness.

Not this time around. I literally haven't had a pregnancy symptom. Well besides a growing belly. No vomitting, no cramps, no bleeding. Nothin'.

It's got to be different this time!

If you guys have anymore questions you can email me or use the blue box on the right!

Savannah Trip

Hey y'all! We got back from Savannah last night and I have so much to show you! Honestly, all we did was eat, walk, and shop. But we had a blast!

Our first food adventure was
J. Christopher's. We vowed to not eat at any chain restaurants but this one is SO good and it's only found in Georgia.

If you order coffee they bring you a pot to keep on your table! My kind of place!

The husband had a spinach, bacon, shrimp, mushrooms and cream cheese omelet. I was starving so I had the eggs benedict. Holy moly... My mom makes the best eggs benedict ever and this one was SO close to hers!

And since we were in Savannah guess where we went to lunch? Yep...
Paula Deen's restaurant.

They didn't start taking reservations until 9:30am. We showed up at 8:30 to wait and that's what the line looked like. There were probably 50 people already ahead of us.

The husband entertained us by snapping lots of pictures.

We managed to get a 12:45 lunch slot.

We did what most people do and ordered the buffet. I figured either it was going to be incredible or a major flop... I'm not a big fan of buffets. Not only do I have no self control but the food is never good.

After they brought us our sweet tea (incredible) and garlic cheddar biscuit and hoecake (UNREAL) we hit the buffet line!

There weren't too many things on the line but it was more than enough. I had fried chicken, mac-n-cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, and cheesy meatloaf. They did have a salad bar but come on... you don't eat salad at Paula Deen's restaurant!!!

Oh my gosh... IT WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD... Y'ALL!!! The husband had 3 chicken breasts and 2 plates full of food! I just had my one plate.

After dinner they bring you out dessert choices and I was torn between the banana pudding and oreo buttercakes. The husband offered to get one so I could have both (he doesn't like dessert).

However, he fell in love with the oreo buttercakes and wouldn't share!!!

We loved The Lady and Sons. I've heard so many mixed reviews about it but we definitely thought it was worth the hour long wait! Everything was fresh and cooked well. The staff was incredibly nice and the atmosphere was perfect!

For dinner that night we made late reservations at
Belford's.

We started with the baked brie. It was served with fruit salsa and an unbelievable house made blueberry sauce. For dinner I had the famous crabcakes. Which were delicious! Instead of using breadcrumbs for the crabcakes they used puffed pastry! Anything in puffed pastry is delicious! YUM! The only negative thing... The portions were teeny tiny... and the prices were really expensive... The food was excellent though we just wished there was more of it for the price.

We skipped out of dessert at Belfords and went acrossed the street to Cafe Gelatohhh's. I had a child's size cookies and cream. This was the child's size (probably a cup of gelato)! I didn't even finish it!

For breakfast the next morning we went to Goose Feathers. Which was my kind of place.

I love just a good simple bagel place. I had an everything bagel with bacon, egg, and vermont white cheddar cheese. It was wonderful. The bagel was so fresh, light, and airy!

And on our way out of town we got some pastries to go... at Harris Baking Co.

We passed this place a couple times while we were walking around. The smell coming from it was incredible! I opted for a chocolate croissant. I also had a sample of a cinnamon roll while we were paying. It was the best cinnamon roll I've ever had!

We had so much fun but were ready to come home. It was the perfect time to go. The weather was gorgeous and the azaleas were in full bloom. We did so much walking that my legs were sore the next day! Here are some more pictures of our trip.

The husband goes back to work tomorrow so the squirrel and I will be back to our same ol' routine. I'll definitely be needing to spend some time at the gym after that trip!

Haiti Pictures

Here are the pictures I was allowed to share of the husbands trip to Haiti. My husband is a pilot so his feet only touched Haitian ground once. So the pictures are mostly from the sky.

The ship he was on.

A
CH-53 (what the husband flies) folded up. I love this picture. To me it looks like a little bird with it's wings folded up sleeping.

All spread out!

The inside.

Haitians

One of the only pictures from the ground. That's not him but you can see the broken buildings in the background.

Haiti from the air...

Big Kenny came to see them from Big and Rich.
